The Barter Players

Barter's theatre for young audiences needs help with anything and everything—house management, technical projects, set construction, making costumes, town criers, and more. For more information and to volunteer contact Katy Brown at 276/619-3327.

Marketing

Upcoming Auditions

Youth Auditions Announced for Barter Theatre’s Fall and Christmas Shows

Abingdon, VA – Barter Theatre will be holding auditions for male and female young actors for roles in the upcoming productions of Frankenstein, Heaven Sent and WMKS: Christmas 1942 on Tuesday, July 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Barter Theatre’s Main Stage in Abingdon.

Barter is seeking to fill the following roles for its fall and Christmas seasons:
Frankenstein: Six acting roles for boys and girls ages 8-14, and under 5’0”
Heaven Sent: Acting role of Young Eppie; girl aged 5-8, 4’6” and under
WMKS: Christmas 1942: Acting and singing role for Arthel or Arthella; Boy or Girl aged 7-10, 4’10” or under.
These are paid, professional positions. Most roles will be double cast.

Auditionees should prepare a monologue no longer than one minute for the audition. If they wish to be considered for WMKS, they should also prepare a short song and bring their sheet music with them to the audition so our accompanist can play along.

There is no need to sign up in advance for these auditions, but auditionees must arrive prior to 4:30 p.m. at Barter Theatre on July 21 to complete paperwork.

Frankenstein and Heaven Sent play this fall and WMKS: Christmas 1942 plays during the Christmas season at Barter. For the exact date and time of each performance, visit our Web site, www.bartertheatre.com. Please bring any conflict dates that you have to the audition.

Barter Theatre is a professional Equity theatre in historic downtown Abingdon, Va. Those young actors who are selected will be acting alongside professional actors in these productions.

General Casting Information

Barter Theatre has a resident company of actors that perform most of the
roles in our season, however, there are always roles we are seeking each
year. The best time to be seen for the whole season is at our local audition
each December. Full information about that audition will go up here on the
casting page of our website each fall. Generally, there are 2 full days of
auditions, and you sign up for a slot on one of those day. Two contrasting
monologues and part of a song (if you sing) are requested, and there is a
dance/movement call you can choose to attend as well. Sometimes there will
be cold readings for specific roles we are seeking.

Barter holds auditions in New York each year through Paul Russell Casting
and is in attendance at UPTA in Memphis every February. Depending on the
year and the roles we are seeking, we may also be at auditions in Washington
DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Asheville, and area universities.
