Assistant House Manager

Barter Theatre (founded 1933) a full-time, year-round AEA resident repertory company of theatre artists and a founding member of LORT, located in historic Abingdon, Virginia, is seeking an Assistant House Manager.

The Assistant House Manager (part-time position) is responsible for the efficient, accurate and courteous operation of the entire front of house at both theatres with the exclusion of the Box Office. The ideal applicant would be motivated and eager to improve efficiency in front of house procedures. Ideal applicant will have knowledge and experience in supervision and training. Previous supervision experience a plus. This position will work under the supervision of the House Manager, Director of Sales and Services, Director of Advancement and ultimately the Producing Artistic Director.

Café Manager

Barter Theatre (founded 1933), a full-time, year-round AEA resident repertory company of theatre artists and a founding member of LORT located in historic Abingdon, Virginia, is seeking a Café Manager.

The Café Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate and courteous operation of the Café at all times.  The ideal applicant would be a motivated and creative self-starter eager to improve the Café and will have knowledge and experience in supervision and training as well as some accounting.  Previous management experience in Restaurant Management a plus.  This position will work under the supervision of the Director of Sales and Services.

Props Intern

Barter Theatre (founded 1933), a full-time, year-round AEA resident repertory company of theatre artists and a founding member of LORT located in historic Abingdon, Virginia, is seeking a Props Intern.

Ideal applicant would be a motivated and creative self-starter eager to gain skills in a professional setting.  Some Props experience in carpentry, maintenance and organization of Properties Inventory is desirable. Show maintenance and preparation a plus.  This position will work under the supervision of the Props Master and Asst. Props Master.

The Barter Players

Marketing

Local Auditions

Annie Auditions at Barter Theatre

For girls 7-17 years old between 4’10” and 5’1”

Friday, March 12 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p. m.

Barter Theatre is holding auditions for girls ages 7-17 and between 4’10” and 5’1” for roles in the upcoming musical Annie. We held auditions for all the littlest orphans, and we are looking specifically for the oldest of the group, a girl named JULY. We need two girls to double as July for our summer show, so come join the fun!

Interested? Here’s what you should do:

Before The Audition:

  • Prepare a monologue no longer than one minute and a song no longer than thirty seconds for the audition. Must be memorized.

For the Audition:

  • Arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. at Barter Theatre and be prepared to stay the entire time.
  • Bring your sheet music with you to the audition.
  • Know what your conflicts are between April 6 and August 15. You’ll need to fill out a form with those when you arrive.
  • Wear clothing you can move in. There will be a dance movement portion of the audition.

Annie rehearsals begin April 6, 2010. The show opens May 28 and runs through August 15.

General Casting Information

Barter holds auditions in New York each year through Paul Russell Casting and is in attendance at UPTA in Memphis every February. Depending on the year and the roles we are seeking, we may also be at auditions in Washington DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Asheville, and area universities.
