Director's Notes
A Q&A with Director Richard Rose What will our audience experience with WMKS: Christmas 1942?more >
A delightful and entertaining trip back to this region – Southwestern Virginia and Appalachia – in 1942 at the start of WWII with a wonderful story about families, including their struggles and worries, and their reconciliations during the Christmas season. This story also chronicles the influence of black music on the traditional Scotch-Irish roots of Appalachian music and how that progressed into the music we know today as an integral part of our American culture.
Why did you decide to do this production again?
This is one of Barter’s rotating traditional Christmas shows as it tells a great story, is a wonderful experience for families at Christmas time, so truly filled with the Christmas spirit and definitely connects with Barter’s audiences.
Why do you think Barter has become such a family holiday tradition?
High quality Christmas programming that leaves audiences in the Christmas spirit and reminds them as to what the holiday season is all about. We offer the best family experience during the holiday season of any arts venue within hundreds of miles.
