Barter Theatre plans to have a new specialty license plate available from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in 2019 or 2020. The proposed plate design is shown above. The specialty plate will cost $25 annually for a standard plate and $35 annually for a personalized plate.
As a revenue share plate, the Commonwealth of Virginia will share a portion of the annual plate fees with Barter Theatre. Since its founding 85 years ago, Barter Theatre — the State Theatre of Virginia — has been a cultural mainstay in southwest Virginia and the central Appalachian region. The funds from the sale of license plates will help further Barter Theatre’s mission of “Enriching Lives Through Extraordinary Theatre,” including artistic productions and educational activities.
The pre-order applications and plate fees must be sent to Barter Theatre (not to the DMV) and Barter will hold the fees in a non-interest bearing bank account until a minimum of 450 pre-order applications have been received. Once we have collected at least 450 prepaid applications for the new plate, a bill will be submitted to the Virginia General Assembly to designate the plate as an official Virginia license plate. After the General Assembly approves the plate, the collected fees will be transferred from the bank account to the DMV for processing.
For more information, contact Bill Hartley, Advancement Officer Institutional Relations at the Barter Theatre by phone at 276-619-3314 or by e-mail at email@example.com
Help us meet our goal of collecting the 450 prepaid applications by early December to be able to introduce a bill in the 2019 Session of the Virginia General Assembly!
